Course Syllabus

This course will examine the following topics relating to Sociology:  Terminlogy of Sociology.  Culture, society, socialization, and deviance.  Social Stratification and social class in the United States.  Global stratification, gender stratification, race and ethnicity, and aging and the ederly.

Materials:

     Students will need a notebook or a 3-ring binder with paper for this class.  Note taking is a priority and a necessity for doing well in this course.  There is a wide range of information, terminology, and theory presented in this course.  Note taking will help you remember and study material for assessments.  Studies show that after two weeks students will only remember 2% of the information presented if they do not write information down.  Taking notes (writing information down) will help students remember up to 60% of the information presented.

 

Grading:

     Your grade will be determined based on the Broken Bow Schools grading scale.  20% of your grade will be based on homework, daily assignments, and practice assessments.  80% of your grade will be based on assessments and projects throughout the semester.  Assessments can be lesson quizzes, terminology quizzes, and chapter and unit tests.  Projects will include but not be limited to:  research topics, writing, group activity, and oral presentations.
