POLITICAL BEHAVIOR:
Political Behavior is a Senior Social Studies course required for graduation. Political Behavior is a semester course. Students will complete the following objectives: Analyze the origins of American Government. Analyze the U.S. Constitution and significance of the Bill of Rights and the amendments to the Constitution. Assess individual civil liberties and the process of protecting individual freedoms. Assess the roles of the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches in the process of American Government. Analyze political parties, their creation, beliefs, and role in American Government and the election process. Analyze the structure and function of the Nebraska state and local governments.
GRADING: Your grade will be determined based on the official grading scale for Broken Bow Public Schools. You will be evaluated in two areas: (1) daily assignments, quizzes, and class participation, 20% of your grade, and (2) chapter and unit tests, and outside individual activity assignments, 80% of your grade.
BEHAVIOR: This is a Senior course and behavior is expected to be excellent. We will be moving to computer labs periodically and your individual responsiblity and respect for the building, teachers, and other classes will be necessary. RESPECT, RESPONSIBLITY, INTEGRITY, COMPASSION.
ACTIVITY ASSIGNMENTS: America's government requires involvment of it's citizens in order to function. To help you become more involved you will need to complete the 4 activities listed below.
1. REGISTER TO VOTE: Go to the County Clerk's office @ the courthouse and register if you are 18; bring your registration card to class. Under 18 we will register in Room 411.
2. Attend a local government meeting: Options are school board meetings, the third Monday of each month and city council meetings, ... Attend the meeting, get an agenda, take notes, and submit a one page (Minimum) summary of the events of the meeting. Get signature of government official to verify your attendance.
3. Hand in 4 weekly articles dealing with your personal interests in the areas of government, political science, current events in government affairs. Complete written/typed summary of the article and INCLUDE student's perspective and opinion on the article. Summary and opinion should be limited to one page (Quality work). Articles are due each month.
