Quote-of-the-Week
Famous quotations are important to our culture because they capture, usually in a few words, the human condition. Hopefully, when we read and reflect on inspirational quotations, we will come away inspired...or with one of life's truths about which to reflect.
Procedure for Quote-of-the-Week:
Every Monday there will be a new quote written on the board (and the web). Students should:
1) Copy the quote and date.
2) To get a feel for what it means to them students can participate in classroom discussions about the quote, discuss quote with a parent, neighbor or other teacher.
3) Write a short response (2-3 sentences) telling what the quote means to them personally.
4) Keep a section in English
notebook just for quotations and responses, and add to it each week.
* Quote/responses will be picked up and evaluated twice per quarter.
The following is an example of how a quote and student response might look:
8/13/07 "Like a ten-speed bike, most of us have gears we do not use." -- Charles Schulz
To me, this quote means that we all have our own potential and abilities, but we often don’t use all of our talents. We may get feel like we aren’t good or that we don’t have natural strengths in some areas. Sadly, we may even give up before we have really tried. Almost anything can be accomplished with patience, hard work, and determination.
